Why does a deep cleaning cost more than a regular cleaning?
A regular cleaning polishes above the gumline on healthy gums. A deep cleaning treats an infection below the gumline, removing hardened bacteria off the root surfaces so the gum can reattach. It treats an active infection. A regular cleaning does not.
My tooth doesn't hurt. Why fix it?
Teeth only hurt at the late stages of a problem. Decay and gum disease are painless while they are small and inexpensive to fix, and painful once they are large and expensive. Waiting for pain is choosing the expensive version.
Can't you just fill it instead of doing a crown?
A filling patches a hole. When too much tooth structure is gone, a filling acts like a wedge under biting force and can split the remaining tooth, which usually ends in extraction. A crown wraps the tooth so force travels around it. It depends on how much healthy tooth is left, and you will be shown that on your own photos.
How long do veneers and crowns last?
Well-made porcelain, placed correctly and looked after, commonly lasts 10 to 20 years or more. What shortens it: grinding without a night guard, skipping cleanings, and using front teeth as tools.
Do I really need to replace a missing back tooth? Nobody sees it.
It is not about appearance. The teeth around a gap tip and drift into it, and the tooth above or below grows out of its socket. Within a couple of years your bite changes, which creates food traps, uneven wear and jaw strain. The visible cost comes later, and it is much larger.
